Artist Interview// Killa Klan Jeda Speaks on Life in Chiraq and His New Project "Promethazine a
Location: Chicago, IL. Killa Klan Jeda recently joined us for an interview in which we spoke about the drop of his highly anticipated mixtape "Pray For My City" and the successful reception it had.
Since the release, he has now been on tour around multiple cities in the U.S. and networking with professionals to take both his business and his music to another level.
During the interview, Jeda gave us an insight to what his life is like. Being an entrepreneur, artist, and most importantly human, Jeda kept it real humble on this interview and spoke about the plans he has for Summer 17'.
The Chicago artist has a new project set to release this summer, titled "Promethazine and Pain". Unlike the drill rap, Killa Klan Jeda likes to tell meaningful stories that portray the struggle of every person and hopes to inspire the youth and it's listeners to do positive things, rather than glorify the violence that has for so long taken many lives in Chicago and around the world.
Enjoy the interview!
Wassup man! How you been?
Aw man, Im just keeping God first, you know, staying blessed. The right way, the Real Over Rich way. Killa Klan that's how we moving man, 1100. What's the word though baby!?
We wanna start off by saying Congratulations on your mixtape "Pray For My City"! We had to wait a little on the release, but it seems to have greatly worked out in the end.
Yeah, that was pretty much things that was going on behind the scenes you know, the politics of the business. The tape was pretty much already done, but we had to get some things in order, so we pretty much just held it back until we felt like it was ready to be released and we released it. I mean so far it's doing good, the people messing with it. That's a blessing for us.
Even before you dropped the whole project, you were getting a lot of support from people just on the singles, like "Hit a Lick"
Yeah, yeah, yeah! "Hit a Lick" and "Foo" did real good, "Pray For My City" did okay, it didn't do as good as we wanted to do, but it did aight! But yeah, pretty much doing shows, building a buzz, just working and it all lead up to the new mixtape coming out. With the mixtape only being out like a month, and it's doing pretty good, it's been receiving a lot of good reviews.
We got some videos we gon' drop to a couple songs off the tape that have been receiving a lot of feedback like "9 A.M. In Chiraq" and "A Chicago Story", "Tooly's Everywhere", you know, couple songs that have been getting a lot of positive feedback, so we gon' definitely shoot videos for that! And we got a new mixtape on the way too, gonna hit up next month, so we just working MAN, We just working right now!
Dope man! What's that next project called, do you have a title yet?
Yeah, yeah it's dropping Summer 2017. It's called "Promethazine and Pain" and on this one man I just wanted to really give all of me. I felt like on the last one I did a little bit, but on this one I just wanna give the fans all of me and give them that real struggle music.
The Promethazine is a designer drug, so you know, it's something that a lot of the youth, we mess with, so the promethazine is representative of that good vibe and having a good time, the flashy things, or the finer things in life.
The pain represents the struggle, the daily grind, adversity, everything you gotta do to get to that. So I felt like at some point in time, we sip on promethazine and pain on just tryna make it everyday in life, you got good days and bad days, so that's why I named the new project "Promethazine and Pain". It's just a symbolization of the good days and the bad days in life.
Is that project also going to feature artists'? Do you have any artists' on there?
Yeah, we gon' have Bo in there, we gon' incorporate some more of the artists that are really a part of my label Real Over Rich Entertainment, like K Breezy, she a Hot artist down in Charlotte. So, we just working man, we doing our thing, we in our own lane! We just gon' keep working and eventually it will go to the levels it needs to go to, other than that we just taking it one song at a time, one mixtape at a time.
Like I said, Promethazine and Pain dropping Summer 17' and it's hosted once again by Chief Keef's personal tour Dj, DJ Amaris, and I also got DJ Shon hosting it too! That's Famous Dex personal Dj, so I got both of them on there. Shout out to DJ Shon, Shout out to DJ Amaris, Shout out to the whole Chicago, that's how we doing it, ya diiiig?!?
HaHa! That's right! Didn't you take a trip out here to Cali not so long ago??
Yeah I was just in Cali a few weeks ago! We was busting moves, networking, tryna talk to the right people you know. Like I said, I got my own label - Real Over Rich Entertainment - but a lot of people been getting confused cause they see Real Over Rich and they see 1100 and they don't know what that is. They be like "what you not Killa Klan no more?" Which is something my big brother Bo Deal started, but in all honesty I'm always going to be Killa Klan, I'm always gonna be Klan because that's the Family, that's my Family. With Real Over Rich Entertainment, that's my own label; and 1100 that's just my hood where I'm from, and all three are tied in together. But nah, I'm forever Killa Klan, ain't nothing change, Real Over Rich, 1100 Zoo, that's how we rocking though.
And you know we rocking with KEYBO, we rocking with ya'll out there in Cali. All the way to Cali from the Chi. That's how we rocking man!
Ayeee, Thank you for that! You know we support your music and rock with you. It seems like people and artists' are definitely catching up on the music and feeling it too!
We just tryna give them this real music. Give them something that they need. They're hearing about the flashy things, they're hearing about the money, they're hearing about all the bullshit. But they not hearing about the flip-side to the hustlers, the flip-side to being in the streets, the flip-side when you don't have a job, you know what I'm saying? There's always going to be more people that can relate to not having a lot of money, or not having success. So I want to touch those people, I want to inspire the youth, and talk to those people & those guys, That's how we moving with it.
But yeah man, this Promethazine and Pain is gonna be crazy. If ya'll wanna hear that real music with substance, that struggle music, something you could wake up to and help you get through your days, then pop that Killa Klan Jeda in. We got a website coming soon - iamjeda.com - so ya'll get in tune if you ain't in tune and ya'll rock with my man KEYBO foreal foreal.
That is a very positive message to get across. I really think people are looking for music they can relate to and make them feel inspired to take some sort of action. I also believe the youth needs to be talked to because they are the one's who really discover and rock with the artists', so a positive and inspiring message is only right.
Oh yeah, we ain't gon' waste no time. It's gonna be here before the summer over with, so we pretty much gonna have two out, "Pray For My City" and "Promethazine and Pain" and we're gonna market that and promote that and we're gonna get back at ya before the year ends. We ain't playing. We just gonna keep going, keep going, keep going. Can't stop, gotta keep going. Stay Humble and master these beats, you know? That's what the goal is.
So is "Promethazine and Pain" going to be available on all platforms like Spinrilla and Datpiff, as well?
Definitely! Everything we drop is gonna be on all platforms like My Mixtapez, Datpiff, Spinrilla, LiveMixtapes, even YouTube. We throwing it out on all social media platforms. It'll be available everywhere.
I just want everybody to know, who's rocking with me, that I love ya'll. I love ya'll support and that I'm just working hard. I wanna say shout out to my big brother and my manager Bo Deal, I wanna say shout out to my city Chicago, ya'll know how we rocking. Man, shout out to my whole hood 1100! 1100 Zoo! Real Over Rich Entertainment. Shout out to my artist K Breezy down in Charlotte. Shout out to all my other artists!
Shout out to everyone that's locked up, Free the guys. Shout out to the people who never had the chance to do something different. I want to shout them out too! Rest In Peace to everybody that is not here no more. We lost a lot of people to the war in Chiraq man. Rest In Peace to them. I send my condolences to their families.
Other than that, all I can say is that I'm just going to continue to work hard non-stop, ya'll know how I'm rocking! Killa Klan Jeda, Real Over Rich.
